Seven years photographing weddings in and around St. Louis means I have been in a lot of rooms. I have shot in grand historic ballrooms, glass factory studios, lakeside barns, and century-old chapels tucked into neighborhoods most people drive past without noticing. What I can tell you after all of it is this: the venue shapes everything. The light. The pace. The mood of the entire day.
This guide exists because couples deserve a straight answer when they start the venue search, not another list of stock photos and vague pricing language. I have done my best to include honest notes on what each space is actually like from a photographer’s perspective, because that matters more than you might think when it comes to your photos.
A few things to know before diving in: pricing changes, venues update their packages, and most of these places prefer to build custom quotes rather than publish flat rates. Treat the cost figures below as starting points and always confirm directly with the venue. If you spot outdated info, drop a comment at the bottom and I will update it.
One more thing. Choosing a venue is one decision. Choosing who photographs it is another. Both matter.

How St. Louis Venue Pricing Actually Works
Before the list, the part nobody explains.
When couples ask me why one venue quotes $2,500 and another quotes $9,000, the honest answer is that they are usually charging for completely different things. Two venues can land at the same final number and look nothing alike in the first email.
Flat rental versus food and beverage minimum. Some venues charge you for the room and you bring in catering. Others charge very little for the room but require you to spend a set amount on their food and bar. A $2,500 rental with an $11,000 food and beverage minimum is a $13,500 venue. A $7,950 all-in rental where you pick your own caterer might genuinely be the cheaper night. Find out which model you are looking at before you compare two numbers, because otherwise you are not comparing anything.
What is actually in the box. Tables, chairs, linens, setup, teardown, staffing, and day-of coordination are sometimes included and sometimes seven separate line items. This is where budgets quietly bleed out. Ask for the inclusions in writing, not on a tour.
The day matters more than the room. A Saturday in October is the most expensive thing in this market. The same space on a Friday often drops by a third, and a January Saturday can drop further than that. If your date has any flexibility in it, that flexibility is worth real money.
Guest minimums are real and they surprise people. Several venues on this list require a minimum adult guest count on Saturday nights. If you are planning something on the smaller side, that rules out more places than the capacity numbers suggest.
A deposit is not a price. A $2,000 deposit to hold a date tells you nothing about your total. It only tells you what it costs to stop someone else from taking your Saturday.
One note on how I have handled pricing below, since I am the photographer here and not the venue. I have not published invented starting prices. Where a venue publishes their own rates I have linked straight to them so you are reading the real thing, and where they do not publish, I have simply said so. Venue pricing moves constantly, and the only number worth planning around is the one that comes from them, in writing, for your date.
Silver Oaks Chateau
Pacific, MO | Up to 280 seated | French Country Estate
Silver Oaks is one of those venues that photographs beautifully in almost any season. The French-inspired architecture gives you chandeliers, exposed beams, and an outdoor ceremony patio overlooking the Oak Woodland, all of which handle light really well. The Grand Hall has enough natural light through the French doors that even midday shots feel warm rather than harsh. It is a venue for couples who want something elegant without feeling stiff.
Capacity: up to 300 seated for reception. Ceremony options: indoor Grand Hall, outdoor Ceremony Patio (up to 200), or the Courtyard.

The property sits on 40 wooded acres outside Eureka and the barn interior has those high ceilings and exposed beams that make wide-angle shots work really well. The outdoor spaces give you a lot of flexibility for ceremony location, which I always appreciate since it keeps the day from feeling rushed or scripted.
Open vendor policy means you choose your own caterer, which helps with budget flexibility.

9th Street Abbey

This one is a Soulard gem. Originally built in the 1850s as a church and schoolhouse, the 9th Street Abbey has stained glass, exposed brick, peaked ceilings, and a string-lit outdoor terrace that is genuinely hard to get a bad photo in. The chapel space accommodates up to 150 for ceremony, and the reception hall handles up to 200 with a dance floor. The terrace is where cocktail hour gets memorable.

The indoor and outdoor contrast is one of the things I appreciate most here. Parking on-site for up to 80 guests, with street parking available nearby.

The Ballroom fits up to 300 and has exposed beams and large lake-facing windows. For couples who want something scenic without going too rustic, Piazza Messina hits a nice middle ground. The lakeside ceremony backdrop is genuinely one of the better outdoor options in the St. Louis area.

Das Bevo Mill

Das Bevo is one of the most interesting venues in St. Louis from a photography standpoint. Built in 1917, the Mill Room features hexagonal tile walls, a triple fireplace, and hand-carved wooden details that photograph unlike anything else in the city. The Bierhall can hold up to 500 and has a grand stage with a stained glass backdrop. For couples who want character and history over standard ballroom elegance, this is a real option.

It is a genuinely unusual venue that attracts couples who do not want a typical night.

The Jewel Box is a 1936 Art Deco glass conservatory with seasonal floral installations and Forest Park surrounding it on all sides. The light inside varies dramatically by season and time of day, and the floral backdrop makes almost every photo feel intentional without any extra staging. I have photographed here multiple times and the space rewards photographers who understand how to work with natural light.

Windows on Washington
If you landed here searching for this one, the short version: Windows on Washington closed permanently on December 31, 2024. Owner Thomas Klein retired after thirty years, and every wedding booked for 2025 and beyond was refunded. The loft at 1601 Washington Ave is no longer a wedding venue.
I am leaving this entry up rather than quietly deleting it, because couples still find this venue on old Pinterest boards and vendor lists, and a straight answer beats a dead link.
If it was the big open industrial room you loved, The Hawthorn is the closest thing downtown. If it was the brick and the warmth at a smaller guest count, look at Willow. And 612 North on Laclede’s Landing carries similar historic building character. All three are on this list.
A note on pricing
Every figure above comes from the venue itself, linked so you can check it. Where a venue does not publish rates, I have said so rather than guessing. Capacities are the venue’s own published numbers, and where they publish a seated figure and a standing figure I have given you both, because those two get confused constantly and the difference can be a hundred guests. Confirm your date and your final number directly with the venue before you plan around either.
